Securing your account against Ransomware
To better protect your backup account against unauthorized access such as Ransomware and other types of Malware, eazyBackup recommends that all users confirm their account is Locked.
Locking your account can be done quickly by logging into and opening the eazyBackup application on either your Workstation or Fileserver and following the steps below:
PLEASE CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE YOUR LOGIN PASSWORD SAFELY STORED SO IT CAN BE REFERENCED WHEN NEEDED.
- Open the eazyBackup application, select “Account” at the bottom left side menu,
- After selecting the Account option, select “Account … change account settings“,
- With the Account tab open, select the “Lock…” button to the right of the Username field,
- Selecting the Lock option will prompt a message letting you know that your password will be required to open the eazyBackup application. Selecting Yes will apply the Lock option.
At that point the program will close and the login screen will appear.
Locking the eazyBackup application will not interfere with regular operation and scheduling.
In light of the recent increase in Ransomware / “Cryptolocker” attacks, securing eazyBackup against unauthorized access will provide an additional layer of safety.
